The park, with its rolling green fields and serene landscapes, offered a picturesque backdrop that had photographers of all levels excited to capture the beauty around them.
As always, we kicked things off with some friendly competition. We set a series of fun challenges to help our members push their camera skills to the next level. After a day of snapping photos and enjoying the challenges, we took a leisurely walk around the country park. It was a great way to unwind and chat with fellow photographers, share tips, and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
And, of course, no We Are Photo meet-up is complete without a group photo to commemorate the day! We gathered together, smiling and proud of the shots we’d taken, creating lasting memories with like-minded individuals who share a love for photography.

The sun was out in full force that day, casting golden rays across the park and creating stunning contrasts of light and shadow. It was one of those perfect summer days where everything seemed to sparkle, and the vibrant nature around us seemed to mirror the excitement we all felt about capturing the beauty of the park.
The challenge was to capture the best photos of the country park. We couldn’t do much else as the heat was at some points unbearable. We all had lots of water breaks. We still enjoyed the photo walk and all caught a nice sun tan.

We Are Photo’s April 2023 Meet-up at Birchanger Woods, Bishop Stortford: A Day of Photography, Bluebells, and Scenic Walks
This past weekend, We Are Photo took a scenic stroll through Birchanger Woods in Hertfordshire to capture the beauty of bluebell season. The woods were in full bloom, with carpets of delicate blue flowers transforming the forest floor into a magical sight. It was the perfect opportunity for our members to connect with nature, share photography tips, and, of course, snap some stunning shots.

The woods were in full bloom, with carpets of delicate blue flowers transforming the forest floor into a magical sight. It was the perfect opportunity for our members to connect with nature, share photography tips, and, of course, snap some stunning shots.
As we wandered through the woodland paths, I set a few fun challenges for the group. The goal was to not only capture the beauty of the bluebells but also to experiment with different angles and lighting to bring out the unique character of the flowers and the surrounding forest. From wide shots showcasing the sweeping carpets of blue to close-ups highlighting the intricate details of the blooms, everyone had a chance to push their creative boundaries.
The walk was leisurely, giving everyone the space to explore and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The energy was warm and supportive, as always, with everyone eager to share their insights and learn from each other.
One of the highlights of every We Are Photo meet-up is the group photo at the end. This time, as we gathered together beneath the trees, the sun filtered through the leaves, creating a perfect, soft glow. It was a lovely moment to reflect on the day's shared experiences and to appreciate the sense of community we've built around our love of photography.
Bluebell season may only come around once a year, but the memories of this wonderful day and the photographs we captured will last much longer. If you missed out this time, don’t worry—there are always more events ahead. Stay tuned for our next adventure, and join us to continue capturing moments with like-minded creatives!

We Are Photo’s January 2023 Meet-up at Weald Country Park: A Day of Photography, Dogs, and Scenic Walks
This weekend, the We Are Photo group had an unforgettable photography meet-up at Hylands Park in Chelmsford. As always, the event was a wonderful mix of creativity, fun, and community, and this time, we had some very special "models" joining us: a big group of golden retrievers! Their playful antics and golden coats made for the perfect photography challenge.

As always, the event was a wonderful mix of creativity, fun, and community, and this time, we had some very special "models" joining us: a big group of golden retrievers! Their playful antics and golden coats made for the perfect photography challenge.
I set two fun challenges for the group: capturing the best dog photo and the best landscape shot. The golden retrievers certainly didn’t disappoint, offering plenty of adorable moments for our photographers to capture—from their joyful runs to the serene expressions as they relaxed in the grass. It was heartwarming to see how every photographer interpreted the task differently, showcasing the diversity of styles and skills in the group.
Once the dogs had finished their modelling session (and melted all our hearts), we took a relaxed walk around the park. The beauty of Hylands Park truly shone through as we explored its peaceful woodlands and open spaces. It was the perfect opportunity to experiment with landscape photography, try new techniques, and simply enjoy the stunning surroundings.
As always, we ended the day with a group photo to celebrate the connections we’ve made and the memories we’ve created together. It’s not just about improving our photography skills at We Are Photo—it’s about building lasting friendships and supporting each other in a creative, welcoming environment.

Our First Photography Meet-Up
Who would have thought an idea would turn into something so magical and be so life changing. In 2022 I had this idea to meet up with other photographers to inspire each other to take more photos.
It was just an idea..
Who would have thought an idea would turn into something so magical and be so life changing. In 2022 I had this idea to meet up with other photographers to inspire each other to take more photos. I had just had a baby and felt like I was in a rut and needed to be creative.
As a photography business owner, I felt that strain of the business after the last few years. Juggling motherhood led to burnout. I needed to quickly find my passion again so I could continue working in my business.
I put a message out in a local Facebook group and set a date for people to meet up locally. I honestly thought no one would be interested and that it was a silly idea.
I was surprised with the response and turnout on the day. I was so nervous and really had no idea what I was doing but it was a total success.
Around 10-12 people turned up and it was so cold because we had a big frost that came over. Everything was white and it made for some really interesting photos.
After the photo walk, we did a big group photo and everyone said how much they loved it.
One of the members turned to me and said ‘One day you could be doing this all the time’. I smiled back not knowing the future of the group.
The facebook group had been created and everyone posted their photos with excitement! It was a total buzz.
The next thing I know, I am being asked when the next meet-up was going to be and I hadn’t even thought of that yet. It was unknown territory but I got my planning hat on and organised the next meet in January 2023.
We went to Hyland’s Park in Chelmsford and had a group of golden retrievers come and model for us. I will be writing all about that day in the next blog.
Since that first day in December, the group has grown from strength to strength. It’s been an incredible learning curve. I am so proud of how far we have come.
I never in a million years thought it would grow into what it is today and for that I am very grateful.
